Zendaya Mares Stoermer Coleman was born in Oakland California on September 1, 1996, making her a Virgo. She is of mixed ethnicity as her roots can be traced to African American & German – Scottish ethnic descent. The name ‘Zendaya’ is of African origin; Zimbabwe to be precise, and it’s meaning in Shona, Bantu language is ‘to give thanks’.

She started performing quite early at the California Shakespeare Theatre where her mum was working as the house manager. She also attended the Oakland School for the Arts where she took part in some top productions such as Little Ti Moune on ‘Once on This Island’ and the male Character Joe in Caroline or Change.

Additionally, she studied at the Cal shakes Conservatory program and the American conservatory theatre. She equally joined a dance group called Future Shock Oakland which organized hip hop and hula dance shows.

Zandaya’s professional career kicked off as a fashion model for Macy’s and Mervyns and old navy. She also featured in icarly toy ads and was a backup dancer in a Sears commercial featuring Disney actress Selena Gomez.

However, the major high point of her career was with ‘Shake it up’. She auditioned for it with Michael Jackson’s “Leave me alone” but was rather chosen for Rocky Blue. Zandaya didn’t wait for the embers of her fame to die down before embarking on a musical journey that saw to the release of a promotional single titled “Swag it out” on May 30, 2011. It was followed by “Watch me” featuring Bella Thorne in June 2011.

Furthermore, she made her movie debut in Disney Channels “Frenemies” (2012), and dropped some more songs that were released as promotional songs such as Fashion in Kryptonite, made in Japan and Same Heart. Zendaya released her eponymous debut studio album with 12 tracks on September 17, 2013. She is also acclaimed for her role in the movie “Zapped” where she acted the role of a 16-year-old girl whose phone controls boys. Notable also is her lead role in K. C undercover as K.
