Keala Scherzinger was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 4, 1986. Her mother Rosemary Elikolani Frederick is of Hawaiian and Ukrainian descent while her father Gary Scherzinger is of German descent.
She started her early life in Hawaii but later moved to Louisville, Kentucky, with her family.
She was raised alongside her older sister Nicole. Keala and Nicole share the same mother but different fathers.
Nicole was born to Rosemary and Alfonso Valiente, of Filipino descent. Valiente left the family when Nicole was only 2. Afterward, Rosemary married Gary Scherzinger, Keala’s biological father.
Her Family Struggled While She was Growing
Keala’s family had their fair share of financial troubles when she was growing up. Her mother was a clerk while her father worked as a welder.
To help the family, her older sister Nicole worked as a waitress. She also modeled and was a part of an entertainment group at the local amusement park, Kentucky Kingdom.
Nicole later became a member of Eden’s Crush music group and released their album Popstars in 2001.
After the group disbanded, she became a part of Pussycat Dolls. Her career heightened with the band and their major albums include PCD (2005) and Doll Domination (2008)
Keala’s sister also had a solo music career. she is renowned for her albums Killer Love (2011) and Big Fay Lie (2014).
