Tom Brady

Tom Brady is an American quarterback football player for the New England Patriots of the National football league. He has played in nine Super bowls and won six, thus making him the player with the most Super Bowl wins in the history of the NFL. He is also a four times super bowl most valuable player and a three times NFL most valuable player.

In view of his achievements, he was named “Sportsman of the year (2005)” by Sports Illustrated, and also received the Bert ball award (2007), as well as the Associated male athlete award (2007).

Brady has been with the Patriots since the start of his professional career. Initially, teams didn’t have much faith in him as he was selected with the 199th overall pick, in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. Notwithstanding that it was a consolation pick, he had faith in his abilities, as he told the owner of the New England Patriot Robert Kraft on their first meeting “I’m the best decision this organization has ever made”. Eventually, it turned out to be true and the “compensation pick”  is now regarded as the biggest “steal” in the history of  NFL Draft.

Tom Brady kicked off his professional career as a backup quarterback, then became a starting quarterback after an impressive performance in his first season, that saw his team winning their first Superbowl title.

Subsequently, his contract with the team was renewed and extended two times as he assisted his team in clinching four other super bowls.

Presently, he is among the highest-paid football players in the NFL and is regarded as the greatest quarterback player by sports analysts.

Early years

Tom Brady was born on August 3, 1977, in San Mateo California as the only son and fourth child of Galynn Patricia (nee Johnson) and Thomas Brady Sr. He has three older sisters Maureen (1974), Julie (1975) and Nancy (1976), and they used to play competitive sports in their home on weekends.

Brady’s parents were big fans of the San Francisco 49ers and they used to watch their games accompanied by their children. It was there that Brady developed an interest in football and became a fan of quarterback Joe Montana, whom he said, was his earliest influence and inspiration in the game.

Brady attended Gregory Elementary School from where he moved on to Junipero Serra High school. At Junipero, he excelled in three sports, baseball, basketball and football but he was more interested in football. Even when the Montreal Expos made him an offer to play pro baseball, he declined and instead went on scholarship to the University of Michigan and led their football team to a citrus bowl victory (1999) and an Orange Bowl victory (2000).

In 2003, Brady was inducted into the Junipero hall of fame joining her sister Maureen, who had been inducted earlier, then in 2012, the school named their stadium, the  Brady family stadium.

Family

Tom Brady’s dad studied in the seminary for seven years to become a priest but later changed his mind. He then went into business, married Galynn and started having children. He had three daughters before giving birth to Brady and they were all standout athletes.

However, he was especially close to Brady, so much that he literally fell apart from separation anxiety when Brady left home to pursue a college education at Michigan. It was so bad that he had to undergo counselling and misses no opportunity to see his son by attending his team’s games, even when Brady is on the bench.

Tom Brady’s mother, Galynn Patricia was a housewife taking care of her family in the dairy farm in Browerville Minnesota where their kids grew up. She is a breast cancer survivor and is “doing well” according to her son, and was able to attend the Superbowl 2019 when her son’s team met up with the Los Angeles Ram. The couple has been devoted fans of their son and their son in turn, praises them for always being there for him.

Tom Brady Kids, Son

Tom Brady

Tom Brady is a man of many achievements. Not only is he a star player, but he is also a proud father of two sons and a daughter and is married to a Brazilian supermodel and fashion icon to boot.

Brady met his wife Gisele Bündchen on a blind date set up by friends. Their friendship blossomed, leading to their marriage in February 2009. The couple welcomed their son Benjamin same year and their daughter Vivian Lake in 2012.

However, Brady has an older son named John Edward Thomas, with Bridget Monahan whom he dated for three years. Their relationship ended in 2006 and shortly afterwards, she announced that she was pregnant.  It created quite a stir as Brady had already started dating Büdchen by then and it was all over the news.

Nevertheless, the couple stuck together and continues to thrive in their relationship. Büdchen never fails to appreciate her husband for being a wonderful Dad to their kids as seen from her numerous posts on social media. She was also very supportive of him during the Defategate issue, as he tried to deal with the frustration of being suspended from the game.

Sisters

Brady grew up in the shadow of his famous sisters, always being asked about his sisters and being referred to as the “Little Brady”. Nonetheless, he believed that one day, his sisters would be known because of him and predicted that he would be a household name – which has come to pass.

Meanwhile, his eldest sister Maureen is a former softball pitcher, and her talent took her to the US junior Olympics at 17. She also got a scholarship to California State University Fresno. She is now a softball instructor and a nurse and lives at Bakersfield California.

Likewise, Julie played soccer which earned her a scholarship at St Mary’s College California. She is now a teacher and is married to a former professional baseball player, Kevin Youkilis.

Furthermore, his third sister Nancy is a former softball player who was awarded a scholarship at Cal Berkeley for her impressive performance. She also has a masters degree from Boston University School of Public Health and is married to Steve Bonelli.

Tom Brady’s net worth is $130 million but it’s nowhere near his wife’s net worth of $380 million. The power couple, therefore, has a combined net worth of $560 million but are quite content to live a low profile life and spend some of their money on philanthropic courses.

Tom Brady Diet

Tom Brady developed a diet plan called the TB12 diet and also wrote a book about it called “The TB12 method” in which he explained the 12 principles for ” sustained peak performance” The diet infuses the principles of the alkaline diet and anti-inflammatory diet. Hence, 80 percent of the diet consists of organically grown fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes, while 20% is made up of grass-fed organic, antibiotic and hormone-free lean meats and wild-caught fish or seafood.

Moreover, adherents to this diet must swear off dairy, added sugars, artificial sweeteners, trans fats, caffeine, alcohol and iodized salts. Nightshade vegetables such as tomatoes, pepper and eggplants are also forbidden. About half of the body’s weight in water is also expected to be taken daily.

Brady claims that the TB12 diet lowers the risk of injury, improves athletic performance, recovery and energy level as well as longevity in sports. However, critics argue that it is too complex, unsustainable in the long run and that the claims have not been scientifically proven.

Meanwhile, Brady starts his day at 6 am by drinking a 20-ounce glass of water infused with electrolytes, then followed by a smoothie containing a mixture of blueberries, bananas, nuts and seeds which he says is “nutrient-dense, high in fat, high in protein and high in calories”.

Moreover, Breakfast comes in the form of avocado and eggs, while he takes salad or vegetables and fish for lunch. Fruits or protein bars serve as afternoon snacks.  Dinner, which must be eaten three hours before bedtime, usually consists of roasted vegetables and chicken.

Allen Campbell, his personal chef understands the special need of this family. He follows the diet strictly while preparing their meals, and also ensures that hotels are properly informed when they are on vacation. He summarises what the family eats, “80 percent of what they eat is vegetables. I buy the freshest vegetables. If it’s not organic, I don’t use it. And whole grains, brown rice, quinoa, millet, beans. The other 20 percent is lean meats, grass-fed organic duck every now and then, as for fish, I mostly cook with salmon”.

However, Brady does compromise once in a while, his favourite cheat meal being pizza and chocolate – unreal candy to be specific.
