Matur Maker

Matur Maker is a professional basketball player based in Australia but has his roots is firmly in the African country of South Sudan. He started playing basketball for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA G League since 2019 and has been gaining popularity due to his skills and personality.

The Sudanese born attended high school both in Australia, Canada and the United States where he played for different schools and was rated a five-star recruit after he graduated. He is notable as a skilled center player and has carried on the awe-inspiring reputation of his family bloodline in basketball.

Fans of the game will remember that there are two other people bearing the ‘Maker’ name in basketball. Those two are Thon Maker, his elder brother and his cousin Makur Maker. The Brothers have been playing together since childhood when they played soccer on the street and have offered each other the necessary support since they began to play professional basketball.

While his brothers are growing their reputation in the game, Matur Maker has caught quite a bit of attention and his future in basketball looks promising which is why we are bringing you up to date about his personal and career journey so far.

Matur Maker Age

Matur Maker is 22 years of age as of 2020, having been born on January 1, 1998. His Zodiac sign is Capricorn, his nationality is Sudanese / Australia and his ethnicity is black. He was born in South Sudan, but because of the crisis rocking his country, Maker’s Uncle who was a local administrator, arranged for him and his family to flee the country when Maker was one year old. The family later settled in  Perth, Australia after a short stay in Uganda to process their travel documents.

Maker began to live in Australia when he was four years old. He joined other Sudanese kids and his brother Thon to play soccer at the Greyhounds soccer club. However, Thon left for Sydney after he was discovered by a sports Scout named Edward Smith, who wanted him to play basketball because of his very impressive height. Afterwards, Matur joined him in Sydney to play basketball under the Guardianship of Smith.

What is Matur Maker’s height?

Matur Maker stands at a height of 6ft 11 inches, which is hardly surprising since both of his parents are very tall people. His father is 6ft 8 inches while his mother is 6ft 3 inches. His brother Thon Maker is an incredible 7 feet in height, and  Makur his cousin is over 6feet as well.

The Dinka people of South Sudan where Matur Maker comes from, are among the tallest people in the world and have produced basketball players with tremendous Heights including Manute Bol and his son Bol Bol.

College basketball

Matur Maker began his basketball career as a student of Carlisle school in Martinsville, Virginia where his guardian was working as an assistant coach. He played the small forward alongside Thon who was already in his Sophomore year and was soon ranked among the best small forward position players in the country. He assisted the school to clinch the state championship trophy and was a team member of the Amateur Athletic Union.

In 2014, he and his brother Thon made a transfer to Orangeville Prep where they played with top-notch players like Jamal Murray and was named Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association (OSBA) second-team all-star. Afterwards, he reunited briefly with his guardian who was a coach at the Tech Academy in Sault Ste. Maria before heading to the Mississauga Prep in Ontario for his Postgraduate basketball season in 2017. Matur was named the most valuable player during 2017, Biosteel All Canadian basketball game in Toronto. After about a year at the Mississauga Prep, his average score ratings were 25.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.7 steals.

Moreover, Matur wished to enter the 2018 NBA Draft without going through college as his brother did during the 2016 NBA, but he later changed his mind and opted out of the draft. He then joined Zlatorog, a team in the Slovenian basketball league from 2018 – 2019. Thereafter, he was engaged by the Houston Rockets for some time but was later signed on by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2019 where he currently plays his trade.

Matur Maker’s Salary is Still under review as various online sources have no answer to the question of his salary. However, we believe that he should be earning handsomely because of his level of skill.

Meanwhile, Thon earns an average annual salary of $2,905,531 from the four-year contract he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks. All the Maker brother’s fortune is expected to rise in the coming years as they get better in their game.
