Few people can boast of conquering Hollywood as well as having a successful singing and dancing career, quite like the multi-talented superstar Jennifer Lopez.

Lopez, nicknamed J. Lo is an American actress, singer, dancer, producer and businesswoman who is widely acclaimed as the most influential Latin performer in the U.S. The versatile artist who have sold over 80 million records worldwide with a cumulative film gross of $3.1 million, was listed under the 100 most influential people in the world, by Times.

Her most successful singles on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 includes “If you had my love”, Love don’t cost a thing, I’m Real, Ain’t it Funny and “All I have” while her biggest blockbuster movies are Anaconda, Hustlers, among others.

Biography

Jennifer Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, to Puerto Rican Parents, Guadalupe Rodriguez and David Lopez. She has two siblings, an older sister Leslie and a younger sister Lynda. Her father is a former night shift worker at the Guardian Insurance company but later became a computer technician in the company, while her mother was a homemaker.

Lopez was enrolled in a singing and dancing class at the age of five. She attended Preston high school where she excelled more in athletics than academics and was a member of her school’s softball and gymnastics team.

While in her final year in high school, she auditioned for a part in “My little girl” and after starring in the movie, she decided that she was going to be a movie star.

However, she enrolled in Baruch University but dropped out after just one semester to focus fully on her dream. This resulted in a skirmish with her parents who thought that her idea of becoming a movie star was a “really stupid” idea. Yet she went ahead with her plans and was a part of the “Golden musicals of Broadway” and the show “Synchronicity”.

Career

Lopez was a backup dancer for the “New kids on the block” before earning a spot on the Fox TV series “In living colors” as one of the “Fly Girls”. This was followed by other acting jobs and TV movies.

Her first feature film was the “Mi Familia” or “My family” (1995). She also featured in “Money Train” the same year, as well as bagging the leading role in the 1997 “Selena” for which she won a Golden Globe nomination and also became the first Latin American to earn over $1 million dollars for a film. She also took part in Anaconda (1997) and Out of sight (1998).

Having established a presence in Hollywood, Lopez ventured into singing with her debut studio album, On the 6 (1999). She later released her second album JLo and featured in the comedy film “The wedding planner” simultaneously in 2011, thus she became the first woman to have a number one album and film in the same week.

Thereafter, she dropped J to that L – O! The remixes (2002) and movies such as “Maid in Manhattan”, the commercially unsuccessful movie “Gigli” (2003), “Shall we dance” (2004) and Monster – in – law (2005) as well as the critically acclaimed “Hustlers” (2019).

But the marriage crumbled in June 2002 and Lopez then hit it off with Ben Affleck and even got engaged to him. However, the wedding never held until they said good bye in 2004.

Shortly after her separation from Affleck, she began to date the Latino salsa singer, Marc Anthony. They exchanged marriage vows on June 2004 and welcomed their twin babies Max and Emme in January 2008. Her marriage with Anthony hit the rocks in July 2011 due to irreconcilable differences.

Lopez had other relationships with Beau “Casper” Smith and Drake, before meeting her current fiancé and former New York Yankees player, Alex Rodriguez. They got engaged in March 2019 after two years of dating. A source told US weekly that “Jennifer feels like she finally met her match and that he is really ‘ the one’ she was destined to be with”.
