Making an ice cream cake is easier than you can ever imagine so long as you can bake a cake using the basic recipes. Little experience is required and there is no big difference between icing ice cream and sugar-coated cake, other than the fact that ice cream (of any desired flavor) is all you need to coat or decorate the cake.

This is the part you’re about to learn, so loosen up while we break it down the easy way.

Ice Cream Cake

A clean round frozen stainless pan (simply refrigerate the pan before use)

Palette knife

The few ingredients you need are as follows:

1.  4 cups of good quality ice cream – vanilla, banana, strawberry, chocolate or any other flavored ice cream of your choice.

2. Whipped cream for the topping

3.  Baked cake of any shape.

Note that the quantity of packaged ice cream you need for frosting/coating depends on the quantity of cake as well.

Procedure

To start frosting  your cake with the ice cream, it would be easier if the room temperature is cool and steady to keep the ice cream from melting, but nevertheless, follow these steps:

1. Use the plastic wrap to line the  9-inch round pan.

2. Spread the ice cream into the pan to form a slightly thick layer and store in a freezer for about 2 hours until firm.

3.  Using the serrated knife, trim tops of cakes if domed., then divide the cake into two layers.

4. Keep one cake layer on a serving plate.

5. Take out the ice cream spread from step 2 and invert it onto one of the cake layers; gently extricate/disengage the plastic wrap.

6. Top with the remaining cake layer like a sandwich.

7. For this step, you have two options: you either continue to frost the top and sides of the cake with ice cream or you frost with whipped cream.

8. Decorate the top with fruits, chocolate chips,  or colored sprinkles as desired.

9.  Freeze for 2 – 4 hours until firm. At this point, your ice cream coated cake is ready to be served or you can keep it refrigerated to retain the decor until when it will be consumed.
