This is as a result of his knowledge and mastering of the theatrics of the game at an early stage and age, effortlessly playing football from when he was in his ninth grade,  to paving his way to the top as one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.

Biography

Haskins was actually born and lived in Highland Park, New Jersey before his family relocated to Potomac, Maryland. As such, when he picked the University of Maryland for his college career, as against Rutgers University, fans and some of his homeboys were divided over this decision of his. As a teenager, Dwayne Haskins was trained by his father, Dwayne Haskin Snr on weekends, just close to the Rutgers football stadium. As a likely possibility, Haskins was inspired to play NFL football too, someday. But, not many thought he would pick Maryland over his native team, Rutgers for his college career.

He was born in Highland Park, New Jersey on May 3, 1997 – obviously, he is already 23-years-old and looks forward to accomplishing bigger feats next year, when he turns super 24.

Career

After its annual Draft, the National Football League is blessed with more talented, hungry and ambitious prospects beginning their careers in a young and vibrant body. One of these energetic football players is, “Simba” a nickname Dwayne Haskins adopted as a child from the character, “Simba” in the 1994 movie, The Lion King. However, the young Haskins has revealed it was not just a moniker, but “Simba” served as motivation through his developing career.

Haskins began playing football at Bullis School, between 2003-2016, while he was still in High School. At Bullis, he registered a sum total of 5,308 passes from a yard and 54 touchdowns. Inspired by his childhood NFL icon, Mohamed Sanu – whom his friend, Mohamed Jabbie, Sanu’s nephew arranged for him to meet in person, he was determined to continue playing football, so, when he got into college later that year at the University of Maryland, he began his college career. But, his time in Maryland was short-lived as months later, he transferred to Ohio State University, following the sack of the institution’s football coach, Randy Edsall, while the season was halfway.

He continued with his sterling performances in his first year at Ohio State, donning its renowned redshirt. In his debut year, he served as a back up for J. T. Barret, completing 40 of 57 passes from 565 yards and 4 touchdowns. Convinced by his stats, the coach included him as a starter in his second season, which he had a record-setting campaign by surpassing the 4,000-passing yards mark and throwing 50 touchdowns, he successfully ranked himself in the class of a few NCCA quarterbacks that had achieved such feat.

Dwayne Haskins was rewarded for his exceptional skill and contributions in major tournaments he represented Ohio State as he went on to win individual accolades and achieve team successes, such as; The Chicago Tribune Silver Football in 2018, The Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year (2018), Male Ohio Athlete of the Year, Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year (2018), Sammy Baugh Trophy (2018), Kellen Moore Award (2018), named as Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the 2018 Big Ten Football Championship Game, First Team All-Big Ten (2018), amongst others. The aforementioned rewards characterized his college career at Ohio State. Thus, when he announced in late 2018, that he would forgo his remaining two years of college football and partake in the coming NFL Draft in January 2019, many believed he was more than prepared. As a matter of fact, Haskins Jr was selected in the first round of the 2019 Draft as 15th overall. He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Washington Redskin, starting his professional career on May 9, 2019.

To continue with his tradition of wearing the number 7 jersey as he had done for Ohio State, he was given the already retired jersey number 7, with the permission of Redskin’s former player, Joe Theismann whose career had ended with a severe leg injury in 1985. So far, Haskins professional career has been worth the hype, as he was named 2019 Rose Bowl MVP and NFL Pepsi Rookie of the Week (Week 15, 2019), within a year of his debutant season.
