Charlize Theron is a South African born American actress and movie producer that is noted for her versatility. She can immerse herself so much in her role, such that she can be almost unrecognizable in every movie character she portrays such as the role she played as a serial killer, Aileen Wuornos in Monster.

Born in Benoni, Gauteng in South Africa, Charlize Theron started her acting career after she sustained a knee injury while on a dance rehearsal. She hit the international limelight after a lead role in the horror movie The Devil’s advocate. She has also featured in a number of movies including, Mighty Joe Young (1998), The Cider House Rules (1999), Men of Honour (2000), Sweet November (2001) and tons of films.

Charlize Theron was born in Benoni South Africa on 7th August 1975. She spoke Afrikaans as her mother tongue and claimed to learn English from watching English programs on TV. She attended National School of Art in Johannesburg. At age 15, her mother killed her father in self-defence while he was threatening Charlize.

She later entered a modelling gig the same year and fortunately won, earning her a trip to Milan. Afterwards, she moved to New York where she enrolled in Joffrey Ballet school to become a ballet dancer. All hope seemed to have been lost when she sustained a knee injury but this die-hard actress cum producer wasn’t about to sulk it out forever as she branched into acting.

She was soon to discover that her Afrikaan accent would be a stumbling block because she tried unsuccessfully to land a job. While in Hollywood, she got hired by an agent by a stroke of luck; talk about creating a real scene in the bank with the bank staff only to be scouted by a talent agent who witnessed her ranting bouts.

This eventually paved the way for her into the movie industry where she started out with minor roles before she landed her first lead role in The Devil’s Advocate (1997).

Theron’s portrayal of a serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress in 2003, making her the first South African to win an Oscar in a major acting category. She is also a recipient of several awards including the Academy Award for Best Actress at the 76th Academy Awards in February 2004, as well as the Screen Actors Guild Award and the Golden Globe Award.

Here is a fun fact about Theron. She no milk teeth while growing up. All her teeth became rotten and had to be pulled out because of the antibiotics used to treat her jaundice. She never re-grew the teeth until she was 11 years old.
