The American is an entrepreneur with great influence around the globe; an investor, philanthropist, author, and passionate humanitarian. Bill Gates is originally known as the founder of  Microsoft Corporation where he held the positions of CEO, chairman, chief software architect, and the largest individual shareholder until May 2014. Born William Henry Gates III on Oct 28, 1955, in Seattle Washington, as the only son of  William H. Gates Sr., an undefeated professional lawyer and Mary Maxwell Gates, who served as an executive for a financial holding company, Bill Gates was inspired from a young age to be competitive.

Raised alongside his two sisters; one older sister, Kristi (Kristianne), and his younger sister, Libby, the ever bright and curious Gates developed an interest in computers during his early years in school.

At age 13, he joined a private preparatory school, Lakeshore School where he wrote his first programming as a young teenager. His interest in computers was piqued during his eighth grade when Mothers’ Club at his school purchase a Teletype Model thirty-three ASR terminal and a block of laptop time on General electrical (GE) laptop for the school’s students.

The young Gates was so fascinated with the machine that he was excused from math classes to focus on his interest in computers. Reminiscing on those days he said, “there was just something neat about the machine.”

Well, so far so good for him, but his success journey went beyond high school.

In 1973 Bill Gates enrolled at Harvard, where he studied mathematics and computer science, but he didn’t last long enough to graduate. He was engulfed by his razor focus on coding that when the opportunity came, he ditched Harvey to follow up on his very own company. He teamed up with Paul Allen, a former class fellow to form Microsoft and subsequently, the company became extremely successful in a short period of time. Bill Gates became an international business magnate.

Bill Gates and Melinda French got married in 1992 and have three children: Jennifer Katharine, born in 1996; Rory John born 1999; and Phoebe Adele born in 2002. After stepping down from operating full-time at Microsoft, the couple partnered to create a charity organization called Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation through which they help to solve most of the world pressing problems. His main areas of interest in philanthropy have been to improve health, especially helping to reduce diseases, such as polio and mosquito epidemic.

On May 3, 2021, Gates publicly announced the end of his marriage with Melinda Gates via his Twitter page. He explained that their separation will not stop their mission together at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation but that they no longer believe that they can grow together as a couple in the next phase of their lives.

However, statistics from the rise of Microsoft’s share price in 2021 showed that Gates could have remained the world’s richest man if he had held on to a vast majority of his stock before exiting the board in 2020.

As of September 1998, Gates own an equivalent of 2.06 billion shares which would have been worth about $693 billion on November 5, 2021, according to Bloomberg

Gates’ net worth was estimated to be $98.4 billion as of March 2019 and while the pandemic ravaged the world in 2020 and put most businesses on hold, Gates’ wealth compounded more than ever. 

In 2013, the Billionaire earned $11.5 billion, which works out to be about $33.3 million per day then $1.38 million per hour, and about $23,148 per minute. For all we know, Gates is among the world’s billionaires who have pledged to give away half of their wealth to philanthropy.
