Bert Kish is an editor and director who died in 2017 at the age of 52 from cancer which his father also died from. Kish is known for many movies and TV Series like the famous 2015-released TV series, Longmire.

His IMDB page states that he has over 30 films and TV series editorial credits to his name. As a director, he worked on 11 films and TV series beginning in the 2000s.

Before his death, Bert Kish ensured to leave a mark in the Canadian entertainment industry. Aside from the TV Series Longmire, his works, Paradise and Intimate Strangers also won his directing skills great recognition.

Bert Kish Died of Cancer in 2017

The Longmire director died at the age of 52 after battling cancer for a while. The type of cancer wasn’t specified as the only news that followed his death was that he died of cancer. He died on May 24, 2017.

His death came 2 years after his father, the filmmaker, Albert Kish died on October 23, 2015. Albert’s cause of death was also ruled to be cancer.

As father and son battled the same sickness, a rumor that it could be the same type of cancer and that it runs in the family, arose. However, nothing has been proven yet and the type of cancer Bert died of was not specified.

Bert Kish was born in Quebec, Canada on September 15, 1965. His father was a Canadian-Hungarian who migrated to Canada following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956, 9 years before Bert was born.

Albert, Bert’s father, worked as a photographer, cameraman, editor, and filmmaker. His wife was an engineer known as Katalin Futo.

Bert Kish was raised in Montreal with a brother named Colin who got married to Cathy.

He attended and graduated from Westmount High School and then furthered his education at McGill University.

His Father was a Filmmaker

In addition to picking up an interest in filmmaking in Austria, Bert Kish had his father to look up to. Following in his father’s footsteps, the director then picked up editing and directing and so went on to garner credits in over 30 movies and TV series as an editor.

He also has over 10 directing credits to his name for projects such as; Power Play, Missing, Intimate Stranger, Confessions of a Pilgrim, The Deadly Pledge, Holiday Switch, Paul Quarrington: Life in Music, Snow Bride, Stranded in Paradise, Winter Song, and BookShorts Moving Stories.

Albert Kish, Bert’s father, also had over 30 projects that had his name attached as either an editor, photographer, or director. His stint in the movie industry lasted about 30 years after John Howe liked his work and offered him a job at the National Film Board of Canada in the late 1960s.

Albert Kish remained there until 1997 when he retired. On the other hand, Bert was still active in the movie industry until his death in 2017.

Admittedly, Longmire may be Kish’s most recognized movie project but that isn’t all. Bert was Married

The Canadian movie director and editor was married before his passing. His wife was a woman named Vanessa Trachewsky. When they got married and how long they were married isn’t public knowledge, however, they had a child together.

Bert and Vanessa were parents to a boy named Aris Kish.

Bert Kish is a Gemini Award Winner

For his stellar contribution to the production of the TV Series Once a Thief, Bert Kish was awarded the ‘Best Picture Editing in a Dramatic Program or Series’ award, in 1998. The episode that won him the award was the ‘Rave on’ episode.

2 years later, Kish was nominated for yet another Gemini Award. He was nominated for the ‘Best Direction in a Dramatic Series’ award for Power Play.

In 2011, the Intimate Stranger director received a Directors Guild of Canada award nomination. The category was the ‘Allan King Award For Excellence in Documentary’ and the series that won him the nomination is Paul Quarrington: Life in Music.
