Andy Reid is one of the best American football coaches in the world. He is the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs and has also served as the coach of several teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers.
He maintained a good career and turned out to be a record-breaker. He is the only NFL coach to win 100 games and appear in four consecutive conference championships with two franchises.
His Mother was One the First Women to Graduate from the McGill Faculty of Medicine and His Father was a Navy Veteran
Andy Reid was born to his parents, Elizabeth Reid and Walter Reid in Los Angeles, California on March 19, 1958.
His mother Elizabeth was a radiologist and one of the first women to graduate from the McGill Faculty of Medicine. She lived long enough to see her famous son’s career blossom. She died in 2024 at 105.
His father Walter on the other hand was a World War II Navy veteran and a first responder at Pearl Harbor. He later became a scenic artist. He died from cancer in 1995.
Regardless of how long or short Reid’s parents lived, they lived well enough to instill in him discipline and several other characteristics that turned him into one of the most admired and tactical coaches in the history of football.
His Only Brother Contributed to His Becoming a Footballer
Reggie Reid is the older brother of Andy and he is 10 years older than the Kansas Chiefs coach. Andy has always been close to his older brother.
Their closeness was a driving force behind Andy’s decision to start football. Reggie played football for the John Marshall High School Varsity football team and guided his brother.
Reggie’s footballing stopped along the line after he was involved in an accident that left him paralyzed on one side, per EssentiallySports.
He later became an aikido instructor.
Well, Andy didn’t follow his brother’s new career but continued with football and later became a coach. The brothers still share a very close and have often spoken highly of one another.
Andy Reid’s Childhood and Education
The Chiefs head coach led a quiet early life and was raised alongside his brother.
Growing up, he was drawn to football and was good at it. He also grew bigger than most of his peers and has been described as a man-child.
He was so big that by the time he was 13 in 1971, he wore Les Josephson’s jersey while participating in the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. Les was 6 feet 1 inch.
This large size, discipline, sacrifice, talent, and a lot more helped him play football at different levels. He played for John Marshall High School and went to Glendale Community College where he started his collegian career in 1976 and stopped in 1977.
He suffered a knee injury which didn’t allow him to play much and extend his career. Regardless, in 1978, he went to Brigham Young University in Utah. There, he played for the BYU Cougars until 1980.

Following his collegian playing career with Glendale and BYU from 1976 to 1977, Reid started his coaching career as a graduate assistant with BYU in 1982. He later worked with several other teams before he moved to the Kansas City Chiefs.

He Met His Wife in 1980 and Have Been Together Ever Since
Reid met his wife, Tammy Reid while they were attending BYU and were both taking tennis classes. Tammy was already in love with the Chiefs coach but he wouldn’t ask her out.
She was still drawn to him and after he beat her in tennis, she challenged him in a raquering game and although she described herself as good, he beat her again. The game seems to have brought them closer as they went on their first date afterward.
The couple married in 1981, a year after Andy joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after he met Tammy’s family, per People.
Tammy was born on November 6, 1959, in New York. She was raised in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Arizona.
Andy Reid has 5 Children and Only His Last Child is
Andy Reid is a father of 5 children (Garrett, Britt, Crosby, Drew Ann, and Spencer Reid). They were born in different states of America.
His first child Garrett Reid worked with Eagles. He died of a heroin overdose in 2012 when he was 29. He was found dead in his dorm at a training camp in Bethlehem Pennsylvania.
Andy’s second son Britt Reid worked with his father. He served as linebackers/outside linebackers coach with the Chiefs He has found himself in different troubles. First, he did drugs with his brother Garrett, per People. In 2020, he was named in an assault investigation of a police officer.
In 2021, he was involved in an auto crash that left a 5-year-old in a coma and another girl injured. He admitted to drinking before driving and in 2022, he was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment for driving while intoxicated.
Moving on to Andy’s third child. Crosby is the third of Andy and Tammy’s third child and the first of their two daughters. She loves a quiet life but performed the National Anthem before the Kansas City Chiefs took on the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium in December 2019.
Crosby is not the only member of the family who has chosen a quiet life. Drew Ann, the family’s fourth is perhaps the least known among Andy’s children. Like many members of the family, she attended the 2020 Super Bowl where the Chiefs won against the San Francisco 49ers.
Among all of Reid’s children, Spencer Reid, the last of the family’s children is the only one who is very much active in football. At the time of this report, he works with the Chiefs as an assistant strength coach.
He had previously worked at Brigham Young University where his father played and became a graduate assistant. It was also the same college where his parents met.
