Once upon a time, Amy Fisher “the Long Island Lolita” was only a little girl in Bellmore. Then, she gained worldwide recognition when she fatally shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco, a woman who was the wife of an older man (Joey Buttafuoco) Amy was dating.

Her life and fame did not only stop at her crime as she later became a writer, a webcam model, and a pornographic actress. Her story, especially related to her shooting Mary has been told in books, movies, and series such as Scandal Made Me Famous, The Amy Fisher Story (1993), Amy Fisher: My Story (1992), and Casualties of Love: The “Long Island Lolita” Story, 1993.

Amy’s Life Before She Shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco

Amy Elizabeth Fisher was born on May 21, 1974, in Merrick, New York as an only child to Elliot and Roseann Fisher. She is of Jewish and English heritage.

Amy’s life as a young girl was out of the spotlight but she has been described differently by people who have met her. From Amy Fisher Anatomy of a Scandal: The Myth, the Media and the Truth Behind the Long Island Lolita Story, a book about her life, some people described her as a prostitute while others thought of her as a shy, while others thought of her as bubbly.

Whatever her story was, in was in 1990 when she was 16 that she met Joey Buttafuoco with whom she started having an affair.

At the time, she was a student at Kennedy High School, Bellmore, New York, while Buttafuoco who was 35 years and had an auto body shop.

Their meeting and affair became the beginning of their long story that ended both of them in jail and also got them the world’s attention.

How She Almost Killed Her Lover’s Wife and Spent 7 Years in Prison

On a faithful day in May 1992, Fisher visited Joey Buttafuoco’s home and told his wife, Mary Jo Buttafuoco that her (Fisher’s) imaginary younger sister was having an affair with Joey.

Mary would later ask the then 17-year-old to leave. When Mary turned to return to her home, Fisher shot her twice.

Although Mary survived the shooting, it left her right side face paralyzed and also deafened in one ear.

Fisher claimed that Joey had told her severally that he wished someone would kill Mary. In an attempt to make him happy, she decided to carry out the crime.

Fisher, perhaps guilty or afraid overdosed on prescription drugs. She was charged with attempted murder after which she pleaded guilty to first-degree assault.

In 1992 the Long Island Lolita received a to 5-to-15-year sentence. She was granted parole in 1999 after spending almost 7 years in jail.

Amy Fisher Didn’t Go Down Alone

The webcam model went down after she shot Mary. However, she didn’t go down alone. She dragged her then-lover, Joey Buttafuoco who had spent a few months in jail for his escapades with a minor.

A 21-year-old man, Peter Guagenti was also arrested and jailed for six months. His crime? Guagenti sold Amy the gun she used the shoot Mary and he also drove her to the Buttafuoco home where she carried out the crime.

Looking at it closely, Mary went down more than any other person in the Fisher crime drama. First, she was shot twice and had to deal with the pain that came with it. Half of her face was partially paralyzed and she was deafened in one ear.

Mary Buttafuoco went through what we can call stages of health struggle. She had a correctional surgery in 2006. After the surgery, she reported that she was able to see the other side of her teeth for the first time in 25 years.

Also, Joey’s children had gone through trauma caused by the incident. Jessica Buttafuoco spoke about how she was angry and also had to suffer from drug abuse for years.

Her Career and Life After Prison

After spending about 7 years in prison and being released in 1999, Fisher became a weekly columnist for the Long Island Press. Her career there landed her a Press Club Media Award for the prestigious and very competitive category “Column/News” in 2004.

Moving on, she started a career in the adult film industry. In 2007, a teaser for her sex tape with her husband Louis Bellera was released by Red Light District Video. She responded to the independent pornographic film studio with a legal action that would later be dropped.

Subsequently, she became a porn actress, and in 2009, she released her pay-per-view adult film, Amy Fisher: Totally Nude & Exposed. She also signed a deal to become a stripper.

Although she was involved in several other adult content, Fisher later claimed that her ex-husband pushed her into becoming a pornstar for him to make money off her. She also reported that she did not make any money from her leaked video in 2007. However, there are contradictions to this story.

Whatever the case, she dropped adult movies and is a webcam model.

Her X video Amy Fisher: Caught on Tape was nominated by the XBIZ Awards for the 2009 Marketing Campaign of the Year.
