This anime TV series was directed by Fuga Yamashiro, written by Hiroshi Seko, and released on October 4, 2024. It was adapted from the Manga series of 17 volumes written by Yukinobu Tatsu.

This anime is an infusion of romantic comedy, action, and supernatural thriller and it tells the tale of Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura both high schoolers.

Momo, an ardent believer in ghosts disbelieves the existence of aliens while Ken believes that aliens do exist but doesn’t believe that ghosts do.

In a bid to prove the other wrong and win a bet, these 2 teenagers embark on a journey to both the occult and extraterrestrial.

Upon Momo’s visit to the occult, she encounters aliens who abduct her and release her chakras which gives the young girl psychic powers.

Ken Takakura also known as Okarun gets possessed by a spirit, something he didn’t believe in. Together, Momo and Okarun utilize their new forms to fight and defeat the aliens and spirits and they even recruit help from allies such as family, friends, and their fellow students.

Dan Da Dan has an average Tomatometer of 100% and a Popcornmeter of 94% making it the top best anime on Netflix.

2. Scavengers Reign

On October 19, 2023, Max premiered this adult-themed animated science fiction drama TV series. It was produced by Joseph Bennett, Charles Huettner, Chris Prynoski, and some others.

This anime follows the story of the survivors of the damaged interstellar cargo ship, Demeter 227, and their adaptation on an alien planet.

In the beginning, the survivors are separated into 3 groups and each of the groups is a pair. There was the group of of Azi and Levi, her robot friend, Sam and Ursula, and Kamen and the telepathic Hollow.

Before the end of the season, all 3 pairs meet up towards the damaged Demeter 227.

In May 2024, the series was canceled after airing for just 1 season but the anime has received several critical acclaims. The plot, acting, animations, and atmosphere have particularly been praised.

On Rotten Tomatoes, this anime has an Average Tomatometer of 100% and a Popcornmeter of 96%

3. Jujutsu Kaisen

This anime is classified as an adventure with a lot of dark fantasy themes and supernatural activities.

The Japanese Manga of this series was written by Gege Akutami and it has 28 volumes. For the anime TV series adaptation, there are 24 episodes produced by MAPPA and premiered from October 3, 2020, to March 27, 2021.

It however had a second 23-episode season that aired from July to December 2023.

Jujutsu Kaisen is the story of Yuji Itadori, a high schooler who joins the secret organization known as Jujutsu Sorcerers. His mission is to destroy the Ryomen Sukuna curse living in him.

4. Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance

You can stream this anime on Netflix since its October 17, 2024 release. Despite being a new movie, its rating on Rotten Tomatoes shows that it is one of the most watched and enjoyed animes of the year.

This anime, written by Gavin Hignight and directed by Erasmus Brosdau, follows the story of Iria Solari, the leader of Red Wolves and a Principality of Zeon pilot. When this anime began, the One Year War had ended just 11 months earlier, and Iria was saddled with the responsibility of defending the European front against the threat known as the Earth Federation Forces, whose aim was to reclaim the area.

This anime has a Popcornmeter rating of 45% which is quite good considering how new the anime is.

5. Pluto

This anime is based on the Pluto: Urasawa x Tezuka manga series Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki created. It has just 8 episodes that focus on the story arc of ‘The Greatest Robot on Earth’.

It was released for full streaming on Netflix on October 26, 2023, and the story in this anime is about the Europol robot detective known as Gesicht.

In this anime, the robot attempts to solve the numerous cases of robot and human deaths and the reason for the method of killing.

6. Demon Slayer: Kimestsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer: Kimestu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train was released in October 2020 and soon became the highest-grossing anime film and Japanese film of all time.

However, the TV series premiered in 2019 and ran through till 2024 and the story behind this anime follows Tanjiro Kamado.

The boy is described as intelligent and kind-hearted but when tragedy befalls his family leaving his sister as the sole survivor in the wake, he is tasked with rescuing his sister, Nezuko from the demons who murdered his family and transformed his sister to be one of them.

7. Delicious in Dungeon

Delicious in Dungeon, the TV Series was released on January 4, 2024, and has 24 episodes so far. It was directed by Yoshihiro Miyajima and written by Kimiko Ueno.

In a quest to find the mysterious Golden Kingdom, adventurers set out to raid as many dungeons as they could. The Golden Kingdom is said to be housing treasures of an Island dungeon.

These parties of adventurers encounter monsters and traps and have to maneuver their way through all the dungeons, creating meals in order to survive their journey.

This anime is rated 100% on Tomatometer and 95% on Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes.

8. Vinland Saga

With 48 episodes, Vinland Saga which aired from July 7, 2019, to June 20, 2023, became one of Netflix’s top watches because of the amazing storytelling, animation, direction, writing, themes, and sequences.

Vinland Saga tells the story of Thorfinn whose quest to avenge his father’s death makes him involved with Vikings. In the first season, Thorfinn’s target was Askeladd who killed his father but the second season of this anime focused on his life as a slave without the will to keep living.

This anime is undoubtedly a classic and one of the finest animes ever produced. I doubt there is any list of best animes that won’t feature One Piece.

Directed by Konosuke Uda and written by Junki Takegami, Hirohiko Kamaisaka, and Shoji Yonemura, One Piece tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy who sailed through the Grand Line with a group of sailors in a quest to find a treasure.

The treasure known as the One Piece is supposedly in a place known as the Laugh Tale and whoever gets the treasure would be named the next Pirate King.

10. My Hero Academia
