In the 2010 film, The Karate Kid, the star actor, Dre Parker, had a love interest in the person Meiying. Both characters were perfectly portrayed by then-kid actors, Jaden Smith and Wenwen Han respectively. It was clear that both kids were destined for a great career in Hollywood.

15 years later, Jaden has gone ahead to make a name in both music and the film industry. On her own part, Han has also recorded some achievements in the industry as a grown-up. Here are some facts not many know about her.

1. She is originally from China

Although she has come to fame for her appearance in a Hollywood movie, Wenwen Han is originally Chinese. She was born in Xi’an, China 24 August 1995, and it was here that she was brought up.

There is hardly any information in the public domain about her education and family members.

2. Han speaks both Mandarin and English languages

The Chinese-born actress is bilingual. She Understands both Mandarin which is her native tongue and the English language. That said, she doesn’t have a strong grasp of the English language.

In one English interview that she once granted, she offered her answers in Mandarin while a translator served to translate her responses.

3. The Karate Kid is her best-known film

The actress might have gained international recognition, but that is mostly thanks to her role of Meiying in The Karate Kid which featured other great actors including Jackie Chan and Taraji P. Henson.

In an interview, she revealed that she was quite scared during her kissing role in the film, but she was encouraged by Jaden whom she described as tough.

4. Wenwen Han had an acting role before The Karate Kid

While the movie was what brought her to stardom on the international stage, it wasn’t her first acting gig. Three years prior, she had a role in the Chinese TV series, Qing Chun Zheng Bu Zou.

Written by Haiou Lin and directed by Lianping Wang, the 7007 Chinese film also features other stars including Lei Cao and Gang Chen. The series tells the story of the PLA, which is trying to implement a military special force mechanism in China.

5. She has other films to her name

Wenwen Han’s acting career has not been the most elaborate thus far, as she doesn’t have too many appearances in her catalog. Apart from her first recorded movies as captured by IMDB, Qing Chun Zheng Bu Zou, she has also appeared in Ink and Rain which was released in 2018, and then another Chinese TV series, Hai Mei ai Gou in 2020.

That said, there is another actress who goes by the name of Wenwen Han and is most often confused with the Karate Kid star. The other actress was born on 11 April 1982 in Dalian, Liaoning, China. She is known for films such as Why Me, Sweetie? (2003) and Beijing Flickers (2012).

6. She is also a violinist and dancer

Han is more than an actress. She also makes a name for herself as a violinist and a dancer. It has been known that she began learning the violin as a little girl, even before she got the chance to appear in her first screen gig.

She might have established herself in her career as a violinist and dancer in China, but much of her work in those regards is not known outside of her home country.
